TORMENTOSO old vine Cinsaut

This is a proudly South African wine from a varietal grown locally for many generations. Traditionally Cinsaut was seen as a vital partner to Cabernet and Shiraz blends to soften their tannins. Older, bush vine vineyards planted without irrigation provide the grapes for this distinctive Cinsaut that will surprise you with its plush fruit and depth of flavour.

A ruby-red Cinsaut showing faint spice, cinnamon and red cherries on the nose, followed through by strawberries and cream on the palate. This juicy wine with silky berry-fruit flavours is backed by earthy, cigar-box-aromas and soft oak tannins. Will pair nicely with a wide range of dishes; try with margherita pizza, seafood pasta, cottage pie and spareribs.

Vinification

Hand harvested from un-irrigated old vine vineyards grown on shale soils in the Agter-Paarl area, producing berries with light colour, soft juicy tannins and prominent red fruit flavours. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over 7 days, after which the wine is gently pressed to avoid over-extraction and racked to barrel after completion of malolactic fermentation. Our Cinsaut was matured in older oak barrels for a total of 12 months, polishing the tannins and adding flavour complexity. Fined and filtered before bottling.
