TORMENTOSO Cabernet Sauvignon

We source our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from two different sites, one in Stellenbosch and one in Paarl. The Stellenbosch vineyard is found between 180m to 260m above sea-level on a North-West-facing slope and deep Tukulu soils. This vineyard ripens slowly and gradually to form dark and concentrated fruit flavours. Dry-land Cabernet from trellised Agter-Paarl vineyards adds juicy dark fruit flavours, ripe tannins and balances the strong Stellenbosch structure.

An inviting nose of sweet coconut, tobacco and Classic Cabernet cassis. These flavours follow through on the palate, backed by vanilla oak flavours from the barrel maturation. Juicy red wine gum flavours on the palate provide a lingering, lengthy finish. This full-bodied wine with its soft tannins pairs well with meaty dishes, strong cheese, pasta, grilled mushrooms and dark chocolate.

The deep, pebbly and weathered Malmesbury shale soils in the Agter-Paarl region are home to our dry-farmed, 5-wire-trellised Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. These tough conditions allow for smaller, flavour-filled berries which are then barrel matured for 12 months in a combination of 225- and 300-litre oak barrels, approximately half of which are new.
