TORMENTOSO bush vine Pinotage

Planted on weathered Malmesbury shale soils ± 20 years ago, this low yielding, bush vine vineyard gives Pinotage grapes with exceptionally concentrated flavours. Small berries and intense dark colour are trademarks of this special dry-farmed vineyard in the Agter-Paarl, producing rich and flavourful wines.

A delicious, full-bodied Pinotage with typical aromas of black cherries. The soft, rich tannins and plum flavours on the palate are enhanced by the addition of a little Syrah. We try to emphasise the softer, prettier side of Pinotage by working carefully in the cellar to manage the tannins and preserve the attractive berry flavours and hints of floral aromas. This wine will pair well with lighter meals such as grilled or roasted dishes, spicy Asian cuisine and cold meat platters. Also the ideal accompaniment to a barbeque party!

Vinification

Pinotage is one of South Africa’s signature wines and our dry-farmed, un-trellised bush vine vineyard in the Agter-Paarl region produces wine that testifies to just how exciting Pinotage can be. During fermentation we remove the skins from the juice before fermentation is complete, which helps to preserve the soft tannin structure and Pinot Noir-like fruit flavours in the wine. We barrel mature our Pinotage for 12 months in 225-litre oak barrels (approximately 30% are new barrels) to add oak spice flavours and polish the tannins.
